Color Management and Stuffs.

Mon Oct 19, 2009, 4:22 PM
So I've had this problem elsewhere, but apparently when you post a file here on DeviantART, and opt to have a smaller "full-view" image, the color profiles that were embedded in the file are instantly discarded.

Well that's kind of a problem with most of my work, because I generally work in a specific color profile (Usually ProPhoto RGB for stuff I need to print, sRGB IEC61996-2.1 for digital only files). And when I'm working in those profiles, it usually comes out really well.

But I'm always hesitant to post my work on any website, because I know that the colors are going to be fucked up. With dA, it's annoying, because I'd rather use a smaller version of the image and keep it all nice and within the page framing and all that, but I'd rather have the color show up as it was meant to be than do that.

So the options are this. 1) I can have the file at full res and have it break the framing, 2) I can resize the image and loose the details in the picture, or 3) I can use a dA resized version, and have people click download to see the actual colors.

Well, knowing everyone on the internet, they're not going to want to go through an extra step if they can help it, so that kind of forces me to choose between the first two. And then when I look at it from that perspective, I'd rather they see my work than worry about the aesthetics of the page.

Digital work is such a bitch.

What I see and what I know cannot be added to what you see and what you know because they are not of the same kind. Neither can it replace what you see and what you know, because that would be to replace yourself.
